Five Minutes with Lara Bingle

It’s no secret that we adore Lara Bingle here in the FrockShop office, with her striking sense of style and effortless beauty it’s no wonder she has us spellbound.

How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style differs from day to day.

For off duty and working out I love to be comfortable, that plays a big part.

During winter I must admit I have been living in black and white, I am however looking forward to Summer and injecting a bit of colour back into my life!

For evening I am loving the man style look, there is a certain confidence that comes with wearing a suit. If I had to choose one word to describe my style I would like to think it was effortless.

What do you love most about sunglasses and working with ROC?

The Roc project has been a great experience for me, sunglasses seemed like the perfect next step, I am really excited to be working alongside such a great company with a strong presence in the Australian market, it seems like a perfect fit. I can’t wait to start developing my own line later this year, sunglasses are after all the must have accessory!

What are your favourite sunglasses from the new collection and what will you be wearing them with for summer?

Autumn Square Frames, I will be living in these beachside in my new Seventh Wonderland leopard bikini.

Which trend has you weak at the knees?

Currently the tuxedo love, but can’t wait to rock some brights when the weather warms up!

Whose wardrobe would you love to raid if you had the chance?

Chloe Sevigny

What is your go-to weekend outfit?

At the moment my exercise gear!, although last night I wore a beautiful Therese Rawsthorne outfit.

What will be your must have item for summer?

The latest shades from Roc of course!

What is currently on high rotation in your wardrobe?

Alexander Wang jumper, Dion Lee shirt, Balenciaga boots, Bassike t-shirt, Ance leather jacket, Jil Sander brogues, Helmut Lang pants, Margiela blazer and my Celine bag.

Fashion Week Survival Guide

As the troops are preparing battle stations for this year’s RAFW, FrockShop.com will deploy seasoned fashion week veteran Marnie Goss to the front  line (or should we say front row), and here she shares with us some insider tips on how to survive the grueling week ahead:

Throughout the week I’ll be guest blogging for FS Style (the official blog of FrockShop.com) so I’ll have my camera on hand, and I’ll be tweeting live from the front row, so a charged iphone is essential.

An absolute must have to see you through the week is a great oversized clutch to hold all your fashion week necessities. (camilla and marc Spiral Clutch)

I don’t go anywhere with out my diary, which is mapped out, with my day planned down to the last minute to ensure that I make the most of the week. A note pad is essential to make sure no stand out pieces or upcoming trends are missed.

I can’t go with out a few back up accessories take my outfit from day to night and some make up for some emergency touch ups. And of course a few backup band-aids are a must when wearing sky-scrapping heels all day (Elizabeth and James Eden Shoes).

One last thing… be sure to pack a little snack to keep up your energy levels throughout the day, with so much fashion to be seen you’ll be sure to work up an appetite.

Five Minutes With: Gary Bigeni

We’ve fallen hard for Australia’s newest designer du jour Gary Bigeni. A juxtaposed mixed bag of minimalism and maximilism, nonchalance and careful construction; this masterful tailor has everyone intrigued for what his upcoming RAFW collection will bring.

Gary Bigeni’s collections hint to his deep technical understanding of garment construction with masterful draping, folding and luxurious fluidity that usually only comes with experience far beyond his young years.

We caught up with Gary and chatted about his influences, design process and the new direction he’s taking for his highly anticipated SS 11-12 collection in May.

Who is the Gary Bigeni muse?

I find inspiration from different women of all ages who have a fresh approach to fashion and are not afraid of who they are.  Anjelica Huston in her 20’s and 30’s had a great androgynous, quirky style.  I also like Madeline Ward who has a great attitude and look.

Can you describe your design process?

My collections feature a lot of draping, so I always start by working the fabric on a dummy.  There’s lots of cutting and moulding.  Each drape design has a different emotion to it that relates back to the collection.

What was the inspiration behind the current Fall Winter collection?

Subliminal reactions based around different feelings and emotions that come from growing over the years.  I gathered ideas from different colours, silhouettes, techniques and fabrications.

What can we expect to see from your new Spring Summer collection that you will be showing at RAFW?

A vast array of colour mixed together in new fabrications, combined with silhouettes that are new to the Gary Bigeni brand.

Five Minutes With: Oracle Fox

If we were to choose a phrase to describe our current blogger crush Mandy, the words ‘weekend’ and ‘luxe’ would find a comfortable embrace.

Her blog, Oracle Fox, is a destination for whimsical thoughts on personal style as well as a showcase for her intricate artwork.

We caught up with Mandy to chat about her style inspirations and our mutual love affair with Abbey Lee Kershaw.

How would you describe your personal style?

Hmm, this is kind of a hard one. I’d probably say it’s a mix of rock & bohemian with a contemporary edge.

What do you love most about blogging?

The thing I love most about blogging is the way you can express yourself on a global platform. You can share with a greater audience and connect with people from all corners of the globe who you would never get a chance to interact with, as well as pour out all your inspirations into one contained space.

Which trend has you knees?

At the moment I’m really feeling the whole sheer thing, I love sheer maxi skirts, sheer button up tops.. anything sheer!

Whose wardrobe would you raid if you had the chance?

Well this would be a combination of my favourite people… Stylist/Designer Pip Edwards for her playful experimentation with layering and colour.  Abbey Lee Kershaw for her amazing wardrobe of Australian designer pieces and Emmanuelle Alt because she is always dress impeccably in that editorial rock chick style.

Label We Love: UNEARTHEN

unearthen jewelry

Designer Gia Bahm takes her time to harmonise the history and opposing forces that define her cult jewellery line UNEARTHEN, considering the distinct powers and potential in each of her crystal creations.

UNEARTHEN’s signature Quartz Pendants centre around a stark and potent union between the bullet and the crystal. A bullet casing binds a single crystal, each with its own character.

The iced lilac Medium Amethyst Quartz Pendant represents a new beginning whilst fiery-hued Medium Citrine Quartz Pendant represents the eternal fortress, giving strength to the wearer.

Medium Amethyst Quartz Pendant, $395.

Add an edge to your ring collection and opt for one of the delicate Quartz Prism Rings. Designed to fit snuggly between fingers, each Prism Ring offers a unique alternative to a cocktail ring.

Following on from our fascination with rough-cut crystal embellishment, UNEARTHEN’s new Pyramid Quartz Crystal Watches offer an innovative take on the trend; constructed using vintage watch faces, no two styles are identical.

Small Gold Pyramid Quartz Crystal Watch, $450.

5 Minutes With: Karla Spetic

Karla Spetic’s SS10-11 collection, ‘Centre’, highlights the juxtaposition between two opposite cultures.

Spetic, an immigrant herself, was drawn to the vulnerability and innocence of the indigenous Australian people when faced with a new world mentality of Western culture and has fused masculine silhouettes with soft, fluid shapes.

Featuring prints of the raw Australian outback and referencing hues of desert pink and sky blue, the collection hints at lazy days lost to a carefree road trip through the Australian desert.

We caught up with Spetic to chat about her collection, her wardrobe and her idea of relaxation.

What is your go-to weekend outfit?

I like to be comfortable on the weekend so I would pick the windmill print leggings with an oversized cotton tshirt paired with Ayers desert boots.

What is currently on high rotation in your wardrobe?

My favourites would have to be my Ayers Desert Boots and my polka dotted Tribe Blazer.

Karla Spetic Tribe Blazer, $1,100.

What is your dream holiday destination within Australia?

I love it when I can I escape to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland and stay at my mum’s house. It’s a nice contrast to Sydney’s fast paced lifestyle and it’s so  relaxing. The beaches are never-ending and wild, and it is always so sunny.

What are your road trip essentials?

Water, sunscreen and good company.

Five Minutes With: Nicky Zimmermann

Since launching their epynomous label Zimmermann in 1989, Nicky and Simone Zimmermann have been two of the hardest-working women in fashion.

We caught up with one half of the cult Australian brand, Zimmermann’s head designer Nicky, to speak of the inspirations behind their current collection.

Zimmermann’s SS10-11 collection features a host of new swimwear styles; what will be popular poolside this summer?

I love the Noir lace one piece which I think its really simple but beautiful. I think our Thistle Weave Underwire bikini will be really popular – everyone loves the print and the contrast boy-leg pant looks great.

Where did the inspiration for this season’s prints come from?

For High Summer, we wanted to create prints that were really fresh and that introduced new colour combinations. I love the bronze and coral tones of the Lyre Lyre print. The colours that pop off the white based in the Whisper print are also really nice.

What do you have pinned on your mood board?

I’m currently working on Cruise Swim 2011 and I have lots of 70’s vintage prints on the board. I’ve also pinned colours like teal and mustard.

What is currently on high rotation in your wardrobe?

I’m wearing our Vertigo Sunray dress a lot at the moment – I can wear it to work and it also works well without a slip over a swimsuit while on holidays.
